EMERGENCY PUBLIC MEETING IN TORONTO
Stop the Deportation of Jeremy Hinzman and his family

________________________________

ON AUGUST 13th, the Harper Government ordered US Iraq War Resister
Jeremy Hinzman, his

end to deportations of Iraq war resisters and for them to be allowed
to stay in Canada.

Please join us for this emergency forum to discuss how to organize to
ensure Jeremy and his
family can stay in Canada.

• PEGGY NASH, MP Parkdale-High Park
• MARIO SILVA, MP Davenport

URGENT FINANCIAL APPEAL FOR WAR RESISTERS

We are writing to you with an urgent financial appeal from the War
Resisters Support Campaign.

The Campaign won a huge victory in June when the House of Commons
passed a motion to stop deportations of U.S. Iraq war resisters and
allow them to apply for status to remain in Canada. The three
opposition parties voted in favour of the motion while Conservative
MPs voted against.

Since then, we have been on a roller coaster. Joshua Key and Corey
Glass won the right to appeal their cases, whereas tragically, Robin
Long was deported to the U.S. where he is being held in jail and faces
a court martial.

On August 13th, Jeremy Hinzman, his wife Nga and their two children
were ordered deported from Canada on September 23. Jeremy is the first
resister to apply for refugee status here.

The War Resisters Support Campaign is mobilizing every possible
resource to ensure that this deportation is halted and that no other
resisters are threatened with punishment at the hands of the U.S.
Military.

What we do over the next few weeks is critical. The Parliamentary
motion and the results of a recent national poll - which showed 64%
support for resisters to stay in Canada – show clearly that Canadians
support Iraq war resisters.

Our only problem now is the Harper government itself. We can win this
fight, but we need greater resources in order to do so.

This is why we are urgently appealing for your financial support.
