The Class War Kids are a political punk group from Newfoundland who play upbeat yet aggressive activist rallying cries. Building on their last album, The Class War Kids seem to have found a perfect mix of music and message in their new album “Reflection! Rage! Rebellion!”

Fan’s of bands like The Rebel Spell, D.O.A., Anti-Flag, and Propagandhi will love this. It’s fourteen songs of resistance with healthy doses of humor and anger packed into just over half an hour.

On 64 years of the USA nuclear bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki (Japan)

Today is the 64th complete year of the launching of the first nuclear bomb in the History of mankind, in Nagasaki, Japan. This crime, which was soon after repeated in Nagasaki, demonstrated the inhuman and brutal character of imperialism, and its main interpreter over the last 64 years: the United States of America.

The launching of nuclear bombs over the already surrendered state of Japan was no more than a political and military sign of USA’s imperialist wish for worldwide domination.

Both the sign and the attempts of domination caused millions of wounded and dead, brought starvation, destruction and misery to many people, destroyed the right of millions of young people to have a school, a hospital, a job, a cultural centre or a sports pitch.

During this time the only thing that allowed mankind to stop the imperialist greed of USA, and later European Union and Japan (the main imperialist poles), was its organized struggle and resistance.

Only the resistance and struggle of the people have avoided even more brutal wars and even more militarization. Only the organized struggle of the people have made it possible for so many countries and peoples to be free, independent and sovereign, despite the continuous threats, blackmail and interventions of imperialism.

Today, more than ever, it is crucial a shift in the world’s policies. WFDY calls upon all its member and friend organizations to rally their efforts and unite their strengths to, with their struggle, make a real change possible for mankind, for a world where demilitarization is a fact and not rhetoric, where peace is a reality and not slogan, and where friendship and cooperation are honest between peoples and states, unlike the exploiting policies conducted by USA, European Union and Japan in its manipulation and despise of the United Nations and the International Law.

The bomb that started the Cold War and cost people dearly

August 6th is the 64th anniversary of the dropping of the Little Boy bomb on Hiroshima, Japan.

On August 9th, this Sunday will mark the anniversary of the dropping of the Fat Man bomb on Nagasaki.

This is the first in a series of videos related to all things nuclear and cold war. We start of course with the bombing of Japan.

A TALE OF TWO CITIES (1946)

Graphically shows the destructive force of the bomb. Much about radiation sickness has been learned since, so the "black rain" was indeed harmful. Carefully chosen words that rationalize use of the A-bomb make this a propaganda film.

AN AUDIO BOOK OF THE OFFICIAL REPORT PUBLISHED 11 MONTHS FOLLOWING THE ATTACKS

Parts 1 through 8. Part 8 contains an eyewitness account-"The appendix is an eyewitness account, contrasting vividly with the dispassionate sang-froid of the report itself, written by a German Jesuit priest who survived the blast at Hiroshima, and whose order assisted in rescue efforts following the catastrophic attack."

BBC announcement of the Hiroshima Bombing.

Below: HARRY TRUMAN'S RADIO ADDRESS AFTER THE HIROSHIMA BOMBING
note that the "atomic bomb shortened the war and saved countless lives" argument first appears here. Speculation that Truman used the bombing mainly to scare the Soviet Union and to secure imperialist hegemony is another argument.

On August 6th 2007, a documentary movie titled White Light, Black Rain deals with the occurances of 62 years before.

South Korean strikers hold firm as commandos attack

from the morning star newspaper (UK)

Wednesday 05 August 2009- Helicopter-borne police commandos have fought a pitched battle with militant strikers at a South Korean car plant, but failed to dislodge hundreds of trade unionists occupying a paint shop.

At least 50 people, mostly police and private security guards, were injured in the day's clashes.

The assault began when hundreds of commandos stormed the roof of one of the factory's two paint shops by descending from a black shipping container carried by a helicopter, while others rappelled down a rope from another helicopter.

Helmet-wearing workers, who have been occupying the plant for over two months, fought back with sticks and threw objects at the truncheon-wielding police.

Commandos also fired water cannon from the container as it was suspended above the roof while another 300 riot police launched a ground assault.

At least 500 workers withdrew to the second paint shop, which was reportedly packed with inflammable material.

The commandos eventually managed to wrest control of the rest of the compound, but authorities acknowledged that the occupation is far from over.

Korean Confederation of Trade Unions spokesman Lee Chang Kun warned that a police assault on the paint shop would be deadly.

"We will respond to it, bracing ourselves for death," Mr Lee declared.

Workers launched the occupation after Ssangyong bosses sought to impose a restructuring plan which calls for the shedding of 2,646 workers, or 36 per cent of the workforce.

Some 1,670 have left the company voluntarily but nearly 1,000 went on strike and kicked off the direct action in May.

Groups protest Harper appearance in Surrey

Groups protest Harper appearance in Surrey

A number of groups came together Tuesday to pull off a noisy and boisterous protest of an appearance by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Surrey. About 50 people chanted and made noise to protest various aspects of the PM's policies outside a Conservative Party fundraiser taking place at the ranch of Senator Gerry Saint Germain in South Surrey. The "Harper Welcoming Committee" included the Fraser Valley Peace Council, StopWar.ca, No One Is Illegal and the Olympics Resistance Network.

"Harper and his Conservative supporters heard loud and clear tonight about a number of issues where this government is out of line with the wishes of a majority of people in Canada," explained protest co-organizer Marla Renn, co-chair of the StopWar.ca Coalition. "From the war in Afghanistan, to the urgent need for social housing and the fight for war resisters to be allowed to stay in Canada, we got our message across."

Protesters continued chanting -- "Homes not bombs," "Canada out of Afghanistan now," "Let the war resisters stay" -- throughout the Conservative event, including during the PM's speech. At one point police officers threatened to issue a byline infraction fine for the use of a megaphone.

"We will not be silent and we will continue to hold Harper to account for his aggressive foreign policy and his regressive domestic policies," Renn added.

One policy that protesters raised was the continued deportation of Iraq war resisters seeking refuge in Canada from the United States. Rodney Watson, a resister living in Vancouver, is the latest to face removal, despite the fact that a motion was passed in Parliament in June 2008 calling for war resisters to be granted sanctuary in Canada. A protest is planned for this Thursday, August 6, 9a.m. at the office of Richmond Conservative MP Alice Wong to support Watson's right to stay.
